Dizziness and Vertigo

Dizziness can impact your entire life, including concentration, memory, attention, balance, perception of movement, light/sound sensitivity, depth perception, unsteady gait, and mood changes. It can cause headache, fogginess, nausea/vomiting, fatigue, avoidance of social gatherings, and fear of movement.

Integracare is a research-based practice with providers certified in dizziness, vertigo, and vestibular dysfunction. We create a unique treatment plan for a patient’s specific situation.

What Causes Dizziness?

Dizziness can be caused by six different systems within the body.

Physical therapy can help determine the underlying cause of dizziness. Dizziness can be caused by SIX different origins. Once the origin(s) are determined, a treatment plan is created. Physical therapy is best suited for treatment of dizziness as a result of vestibular system dysfunction and other physical causes of dizziness.

Dizziness is the Second Most Common Reason to Visit a Doctors Office

An estimated 70% of Americans will experience dizziness at some point in their lives. About 90 million Americans currently go to health care providers because of vertigo, dizziness or balance problems.

What is the Vestibular System?

The vestibular system is the body’s balance system, located in the inner ear. This system senses acceleration, deceleration, and static equilibrium.

What is BPPV?

BPPV is a sudden onset of dizziness, usually triggered by positional changes. This occurs in the vestibular system.

Can Physical Therapy Help If...

Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV) often begins abruptly and is best managed when treated as soon as possible.

Whether the dizziness started yesterday or 30+ years ago, physical therapy treatment may help in managing your symptoms.

Our certified and trained physical therapy team can assist in appropriately diagnosing the cause of your symptoms. The findings from the physical therapy evaluation, along with the presentation of your symptoms, will determine the recommended next step in your care.

Vertigo is the feeling that you, or the environment around you, is moving or spinning. The vestibular system is often implicated in cases of vertigo. Individualized and specific physical therapy can affect changes in this system and ultimately your symptoms.

There is no one-size-fits-all treatment for dizziness. Previous treatment does not eliminate the possibility of affecting change now. Dependent on the origin of dizziness, treatment may be directed at correcting the problem or minimizing/managing symptoms.
