Yearly Wellness: Preventative Care
Physical therapy and chiropractic care are important year-round, even when you might not actually be in pain. Some might look at this and say, “What’s the point? I’m not hurting!” A wellness exam once or twice a year is a chance for a physical therapist or chiropractor to take a look at your natural movements (how you sit, walk, etc.) to see if the way you move is going to hurt you in the long run.
So what does a wellness exam look like? Systematic movement protocol includes things like assessing how you bend forward and extending backwards, asking detailed questions like “what is your job like?” or “how do you sleep?” A mechanic that can oftentimes be hunched over a car for hours at a time might forget how important their posture can be for their health. Taking into account your personal background and daily movements will help your practitioner accurately provide tips and tricks to prevent future pain. Jared Eickhoff, Doctor of Physical Therapy, is here to give us a closer look at why a wellness exam is so important.
