ART: Active Release Technique
Active release technique (ART) is a method physical therapists or chiropractors use to really release a muscle more than a patient could at home on their own. It's more than a stretch or a massage. In the clinic, we'll feel the muscle for adhesions (scar tissue) and restrictions. We'll put tension on that spot, and move it through a range of motion. The process may be uncomfortable, but the desired result is worth it. ART can assist in the recovery and rehabilitation of chronic low back pain, hip pain, shin splints, headaches, shoulder pain, tennis elbow, and plantar fasciitis. Basically, anywhere on the body a muscles is involved. Typically, a few ART sessions are recommended for best treatment practices. Tune in as Nichole Roiko DPT explains how ART works.
